The Great Carterton Wheelbarrow Race 2012
ROUNDUP: Well, despite having to postpone from the 3rd to the 24th, the Wheelbarrow Race was a great success and very well attended!
Spectators saw plenty of action: the frenzy of the Kids' Races, the grit of the Iron Man and Iron Woman competitions, and the record-breaking times in the Gladstone-Carterton race!
It's with great thanks to our sponsors that this was not only a hugely exciting community event, but that various local schools and charities will be presented with winnings- including $500 for the open race.
We'll post official results here soon. For now, you can check out a few photos in the Photo Section, or on our Facebook page. And the Times Age has an article about the day too.
Kudos to all the organisers, and a big cheer for all participants.
See you all next year!
LATE BREAKING NEWS: Due to forecast gale-force winds, the Wheelbarrow Race will be POSTPONED UNTIL MARCH 24. Apologies, but 120km/hr winds are "predicted with confidence"!
The Carterton Wheelbarrow Race is returning on March 3rd, 2012!
Come along for a great family day and a celebration of local Carterton history. Enter a team to win prizes for your Community Group, School, Sports Club or Charity!
Entertainment will include:
• Bouncy Castles
• Face Painting
• Ferris Wheels
• Food and Drinks
• And the odd Wheelbarrow Race...
Find out if the Gladstone to Carterton Endurance Racers be able to beat the standing record time, especially after the cracking pace set last year!
So come on down to the Carterton RSA on the corner of Broadway and Masson Street, either to compete or just enjoy the wheelbarrow madness!
